Over 30 years ago, the Fort Lee PBA was a member of a multi-town PBA, known as Local #45. As the town grew, so did our membership. As a result, we were compelled to form our own local known now as Local #245. The PBA sponsors a number of community events, some being blood drives, support for families in need, sponsorship of at hletic teams and donations to other charitable organizations. Every Christmas, members of the local respond to area hospitals in order to give out toys to children. Food and toys are also given out to families in need during the holiday season. Our local helped during 9-11, and rose over $10,000.00 in support for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. The Billy Birch Scholarship Fund was set up to assist local students for college. These scholarships are given out each year in the amounts ranging from $500.00 to $1000.00, depending on the number of applicants. As of this date, the PBA has given out $40,000.00.
The PBA does only one fund raiser each year. We NEVER solicit our donations, “door to door”. If anyone approaches any resident on behalf of the PBA, we urge you to refuse and immediately contact Police Headquarters. Throughout the year you may also receive many phone solicitations by people claiming to be the PBA. Again, we NEVER solicit by telephone.
Our local is one of the strongest in the state. We help support the families of officers killed in the line of duty, as well as the Police Officer’s Memorial in Washington D.C. We are always available to help when our community is in need of assistance. |
